Paul Felix grew up in a Christian home. His father, Rev. Lawrence A. Felix, Sr., served as the founder and pastor of Miracle Baptist Church in South Central Los Angeles at the time of his home-going in 1961. His mother, a godly Christian woman, entered into heaven in 2016. Both played a significant role in Paul making a profession of faith at an early age. It was not until his senior year of college that there was a true commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.

President Felix attended the University of Southern California (1970-1973) and received his B.A. from the University of Redlands in 1975. He was encouraged by his pastor and future father-in-law, the late Dr. Whalen S. Jones, to attend the Los Angeles Bible Training School. He heeded his pastor's advice and became a student at LABTS in the Fall of 1974. This began a love affair with the school where he once was a student and now continues to serve as the president. In 1978, while working full-time at TRW as a systems programmer, Paul enrolled at Talbot Seminary and earned the M.A. in Biblical Studies in 1982. Further degrees were earned at The Master's Seminary. Felix was awarded a Master of Divinity (1992), Master of Theology (1994), and a Doctor of Theology (2010).

The teaching career of Dr. Felix at LABTS began in 1982. He has taught over 27 different classes. He also served for a short time as Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

From 1992 to 1996, he served as a faculty associate at The Master's Seminary. Between 1996 and 1999, Dr. Felix served as senior pastor at Berean Bible Church in Denver, Colorado

In the summer of 1999 he returned to TMS as a full-time instructor in the New Testament Department. He taught there until 2015, when he resigned as Associate Professor of New Testament. Dr. Felix was a contributor to The Jesus Crisis (Kregel, 1998), The Master's Perspective on Contemporary Issues (Kregel, 1998), Evangelical Hermeneutics: The New Versus the Old (Kregel, 2002), and Say It! Celebrating Expository Preaching in the African American Tradition (Moody, 2019).

Since 2015, President Felix has also served as Senior Pastor at Fairview Heights Baptist Church in Inglewood, CA (www.fhbchurch.org). President Felix has been married to his wife, Marlean, since June 1976. They have two adult children, Wes and Allyson (a five-time Olympian in track and field), and a granddaughter and grandson.
